about

Out Thursday 9th November, ‘dream again’ is the debut album from Glasgow-based singer, songwriter, and musician Daniel Robinson, featuring singles “homeland” and “can’t get over you feat. Rachel Fort”. Recorded following a yearlong musical sabbatical, the release pulls back the curtain on an artist known for his reworkings of the words and music of others. The result is rich with authenticity and intimate sentimentality, paying tribute to the Nashville approach to songwriting, backed with cinematic flairs of acoustic guitar and piano.

Title and focus track “dream again” is a song about the journey towards rediscovering hope, a theme reflected across the LP. Taking influence from personal experiences during late 2020, the track circles around the illnesses and anxieties that permeated the year. “It was a crisis that wrecked me, but I had to hold it together,” Daniel explains, speaking of his wife’s health during that time and their subsequent move back to the UK from America. The anthemic ending of the track guides the listener to the place of emotional relief and hope out of a time of pain.

A Glasgow native, ‘dream again’ opens with “homeland” which sees Daniel explore this journey of leaving America with his wife and children after ten years of making a home there. Embodying Celtic folk and organic instrumentation, the track is an ode to the places we consider home along the way, and the places that remained home all along.

Other stand out moments on the release include the autumnally nostalgic “slow motion feat. Katelyn McKinlay”. Co-written by Nashville-based songwriter Alyssa Kinn, the track radiates the warmth of the past, giving the listener space to take everything in and look back with fondness. “can’t get over you feat. Rachel Fort” continues to look back on the past, this time fuelled by regret and missed chances to put things right. Featuring Nashville artist Rachel Fort, the track develops into a cinematic chorus, evoking comparisons to the like of John Mayer, that are befitting to the emotional outpour that comes from these moments of contemplation.

‘dream again’ is Daniel Robinson’s first full length project of original work, truly offering up a fresh new sound and era for the talented and dexterous musician.
